Blog 2: Topic Choice

The topic I've chosen is Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry. I chose this because my ultimate goal is to receive an MD in this field. I found (when I was in elementary school) that I had a interest in children with Autism and disorders like it. I want to surround and center my life around them, doing everything I can to help them adjust to society today.
  • iPoly Citizen: I plan to be a respectful worker in the community. In order to live in the real work and the work environment, we need to be able to respect those we work with with; something that iPoly is teaching us to do.
  • Effective Communicator: I plan to help my mentor run sessions, if possible, and do what I can to make it run smoothly. This will help me because as an effective communicator we need to be able to work with groups in harmony through means of  communication and expression.
  • Effective Learner: I plan to learn how psychiatrists remember all their training while in the work environment. This has always been a fear of mine -- that I wouldn't be able to remember the answers and my training. This will make me more of an effective learner because it will teach me skills for remembering things I learned long ago.
  • Effective User of Technology: I plan to understand how psychiatrists incorporate technology into their usual workday. Being that these doctors deal more with patients through talking rather than technological equipment, the only way I can see them using it is to write reports and organize their data. Nevertheless, learning how they really use technology in their everyday lives will make me a more effective user by showing me how technology can be used in an unsuspecting way.
