Literal:
Why is Carly a revolutionary case?
- Autistic children, specifically Carl, don't like to talk to other in varying degrees. For her to be able to type to other people is a miracle because she is blatantly communicating. she can get her thoughts through in a decent and forthright manner, without leaving those around her to pry and guess what she wants.
Interpretive:
By her communicating in the way she did, what does that say about her character?
- It says that she is a very determined person. She won't let her disability stand in her way of what she wants to do nor what she is truly capable of doing. When she speaks through typing she is the normal, productive girl that she wishes her physical presence would showcase. It's a battle between wanting to be normal but being different. Carly found a way through it.
Applied:
How does this help to answer your EQ?
- This helps answer my EQ by providing an example to one of my answers: playing the role of support. This is because the parents supported her by supplying the necessary tools she needed to communicate and encouraging her to use them. There was no way that talking for her worked so they needed to support her in what she was doing.
