Blog 10: Senior Project Update

1.     For my independent component I have decided to work with Autism Speaks by raising money. They have something called a Puzzle Piece Campaign which is how I will Raise  a bulk of the money. The other way is through the website I made for it. (http://fundraise.autismspeaks.org/Markslist/url/speakup1140) As a culminating event, I was thinking about hosting a walk, but I'm not too sure about that so far. I am trying to raise $1,000.00 and so far I'm not succeeding. I have ordered the puzzle pieces to sell, but there has been problems recieving it.
The reson I've decided to do this is because in one way or another, psychiatrists, doctors, even nurses raise awareness for a cause they believe in; whether it be through writing papers, serving on committes, or donating time... This is how I chose to do mine.

2. An article describing what makes a good and accurate diagnostic test was the most beneficial to me. It spurred my thoughts on where to go for my science fair. The biggest thing I learned was about sensitivity and specificity of a test.
Specificity: A virtual guarantee that a disease is there
Sensitivity: How well a test shows that the guaranteed disease is there. (Ex: a test showing no or low percentage of guaranteed disease is NOT a good test; whereas one showing a high reading is an EXCELLENT test)
